You want to include nature study in your homeschool…

But between math, laundry, and “just one more snack,” it always falls to the bottom of the list.

The good news? It doesn’t have to be that way.
You don’t need a science degree, a perfect journal, or hours of free time. You just need a reason to go outside—and a little structure to keep going.

That’s where the Get Outside Nature Challenge comes in.

NICE TO MEET YOU

I'm Joy Cherrick

I'm a homeschooling mother of seven. I developed Nature Study Hacking for my own family and community, and I’m excited to share it with you here at naturestudyhacking.com!

As technology creeps into every aspect of our lives, I’m passionate about getting my children outside regularly. Through trial and error, I discovered that while nature study offers a wealth of knowledge, the sheer amount of information can overwhelm beginners. I wanted to create a simplified, structured way to dive into nature study, making it accessible for everyone.

After researching the best practices from naturalists and educators, I simplified Anna Botsford Comstock's Handbook of Nature Study into bite-sized lessons with nature journal prompts. This helps families engage deeply with nature while developing lasting journaling habits.

The result has been life-changing for us. My children now regularly pick up their journals, and I want you to experience that same joy in your home!
